Beach Clubs Feature

With it’s crystal-clear turquoise waters and long stretches of white sand, the one thing Playa del Carmen isn’t short of is beach clubs! This town has a club on almost every block, each with their own unique style, special offers and clientele. So which one do you choose to spend your long days in the sun? Well, whether you’re looking to party into the night, relax in the afternoon sun, or eat your way through the best food playa has to offer, look no further than my guide to the top 5 beach clubs in Playa del Carmen.

Beach Clubs Shore Line

1. Canibal Royal

Location: CTM

Open: 11-7pm

Price: $$$

Canibal drone

My absolute favourite beach club in Playa del Carmen, Canibal Royal is a little out of the way but trust me, it’s more than worth the trip! This tropical paradise is set on 3 levels, the first is their beach bar, DJ booth and kitchen, complete with outdoor stone oven where they bake freshly caught fish and delicious pizzas every day. The second floor is another bar and kitchen, with a great view over the entire beach area. The third, and last level, has an adult only rooftop pool, mini bar and beautiful terrace, abundant with comfy sun loungers. The views from this level are outstanding, you can see out to the neighbouring island Cozumel, and all the way along to the ferry pier 14 blocks away!

Canibal Food

As this beach club is part of the legendary Santanera group you can guess that music is an important part of the overall vibe, they have DJs every day from 1-6pm, and even throw in a live band every now and again. The food in Canibal Royal is second to non! They have the most delicious selection of seafood dishes, gourmet tacos and flat bread pizzas, all made (or caught) fresh that day. Although the prices for this beach club are a little on the expensive side you really get what you pay for, I’m a proud ‘grab a sheet and go lay in the sand with a home-made sandwich’ kind of girl, and I’ll happily pay to spend an afternoon in this beautiful place. If you’re looking for somewhere that truly represents the Caribbean feel of Playa del Carmen then this is the place for you.

2. Lido

Location: Calle 10

Open: 8-8pm

Price: $

Lido Beach

This is probably the most chilled out spot to relax on the white sands of Playa del Carmen. Lido has a section for everyone, whether you want to laze in a hammock, stop by for a sit down meal, soak up the sun on a lounger or have a well deserved siesta on a beach bed, you’ll find your perfect spot in this laid back club. My favourite thing about this Lido is their totally non-judgemental and down to earth staff, which totally match the place’s happy reggae vibe.

Lido Food

The food in Lido is just like their overall design, no fuss but totally hits the spot! You can find anything from burgers and nachos, to more unusual dishes like shrimp cocktails and aguachiles. This is also the most affordable beach club as it has no minimum spend to use their sun loungers, you simply have to order something. If you’re looking for a place to hang out with friends or enjoy the beautiful white sands on a budget then this is the place for you.

3. Indigo

Location: Calle 14

Open: 7-10pm

Price: $$

Indigo Beach

This beach club makes you feel like you’re walking into a beautiful hotel in Thailand, it has ornate parasols in place of the usual beach umbrellas, exquisitely comfortable sun beds and loungers, and a lovely dining section with full tables. This stunning location is always full, and is attached to a boutique hotel so you know you’re getting the best quality of everything. Indigo have live bands on the weekends, and often have boutique sales of local designers latest pieces in their entrance.

Indigo Food

I think the best part of this beach club is the food! Indigo have a delicious selection of the finest foods from gourmet pita with freshly made humus,  to the catch of the day, or even refreshing sushi dishes. I’ve been known to walk to this beach club, not to soak up the sun, but to simply sit in their restaurant area and chow down on their amazing food! If you’re looking for somewhere upscale but still laid back this is most definitely the place for you.

4. Coralina

Location: Calle 26

Open: 10-7pm

Price: $$$

Coralina pool

I want to start of by saying this club isn’t really ‘my style’, however, I wanted to give a rounded review of the beach clubs here in Playa del Carmen, and feel that Coralina Daylight Club is the best of it’s kind.

This beach club, which actually centres more around its luxury pool than the actual beach, is always full to the brim! It opened late last year and quickly became the number one hot spot for the 20-30s elite group. Everything in this stunning place was specially chosen and gives you the feeling of being in an exclusive club in Ibiza. With Electronic DJs performing every day there is always a party going on in Coralina, especially when you add in pole-dancing poles in the middle of the pool and giant blow up swans.

Coralina food and drink

The food and drink in Coralina are just as well prepared as the rest of the beach club. You will find only the best ingredients in their fresh ceviche and sushi dishes, and only the most perfectly chilled champagne and vodka in their ice buckets. If you’re looking for somewhere to go and party with the 20 somethings of the area, in a luxury (and expensive) atmosphere then this is the place for you.

5. Zenzi

Location: Calle 10

Open: 8-10pm

Price: $$

Zenzi beach

Music lovers welcome to Zenzi! With it’s central location, live bands from 5pm, and DJ selection all day every day, you’re sure to love this friendly and fun beach club. You won’t find any generic sun loungers in this hip place, oh no… All their seats are plush and fully cushioned beach beds, each with it’s own cover to keep you out of the full force of the midday sun. This is absolutely a favourite place for locals, every day you can see the bar area full of friends meeting up to listen to the great music, or watch the latest sporting event on their full HD TVs.

Zenzi food

The food in Zenzi is really something to talk about too, they have one of the best burgers in all of playa, and their pasta dishes are something special as they have very unique Thai and Chinese influences. The best day of the week to take a stroll down to this beach club is Sunday, when they offer an all you can eat BBQ right on the beach! If you’re looking for a lively local spot to enjoy a day of great music then this is definitely the place for you.

  1. Great post! I didn’t make it to any of these beach clubs in Playa and now I am wondering why! I was more so using it as a base to explore the nearby islands and towns, but now I know for next time;) Great photos too!
    Happy travels- Georgia

    1. Thank you so much Georgia! The nearby islands are stunning, I really don’t blame you for using Playa as a base to explore at all haha. Next time you’re here at least you’ll know the best spots to relax here as well. Enjoy your adventures!

  2. I totally disagree w/half of these. Especially your top choice. I’ve been going 2 Playa 4 over 25 yrs. & all the beaches R nice & Playa is the place 2 go n Mexico but your picks R way off.

    1. I’m sorry you feel that way, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I must however state that the list of beach clubs are not in any form of order, 1 isn’t better than 5 etc, and that we are clearly very different in age and taste. I’m guessing you’re an american male in the latter half of his life, and that you have different likes to me and my target audience, which is men and women in their 20-30s… But thank you for your very nicely written feedback.

    2. 2 have the most Fun, Zenzi & Lido R #1 then Wah Wah Then Indigo, but it has very little beach but the best breakfast buffet n Playa. All around 4 good food is Zenzi.

  3. well written, really like your choices, we have been to most of them but now stick with Lido Bar and grill, always amazing staff…..good food and the drinks are amazing too. Well done Lido!

    1. Thank you very much, I do love Lido, it’s a great place with a super relaxed atmosphere. Couldn’t agree more 🙂

You missed one of the best at WAH WAH, Free lounge chairs and umbrella, cheapest beer, live music and best food. Very popular with all our Foreigner visitors.

    1. Wah Wah is included in my map, and if you look at one of my latest posts you’ll find I featured Wah Wah in ‘the best music venues in playa’. Although I do like Wah Wah, I don’t feel it is one of the best beach clubs here. I find the place a little too touristic/ Americanised for my taste.

I liked your post. What do you recommend as best for families? Thank you!

    1. Hi there! I would say a beach club called Wah Wah or Lido. Here they have lots of space to play, there are no rocks under the water as you enter the sea, and the atmosphere is very open and fun.
